11th Heaven…Dragons win 11th in a row 34 - 27


It’s not often that you eagerly anticipate, and are then treated to an exciting game when an undefeated team (the Dragons) takes on a team still searching for their first win (Pacific Hydro)…

However entering the game undermanned, playing without Captain DK Kang (long-term injury list), Matty the Rocket Fraser (unavailable) and Brooke Arrowsmith (Ankle), last night’s match was one that the Dragons knew would test them, despite the teams’ respective ladder positions.

Although considerably less skilled than the Dragons, their opponents were able to stay in the game, thanks to some tidy shooting under the basket. The Dragons weren’t too shabby on the offensive end either. Despite missing some open shots that they should’ve hit, the Dragons entered half time with an 18-10 lead. Hadjitello contributed 7 first half points, and Top Cat kept the scoreboard ticking with 6 of her own.


The second half was much a reflection of the first, with the Dragons dominating general play, only to find themselves failing to capitalise on the scoreboard and cruise to a convincing and comfortable victory. The lead continually jumped between 5 and 10 points throughout the half, on the back of some nice shooting from Hadjitello, who finished with 14 points for the game, and Chinny Sharpshooter Phoa, who found touch in the 2nd half to land a couple of big bombs from beyond the 3 point line. AK Kojevnikov was again her ruthless self under the basket, showing signs of improvement week in and week out. She was a force to be reckoned with on the rebounding end, which helped Top Cat (in foul trouble) avoid being fouled off.


Big Fella Boyd was his usual self throughout the match, proving invaluable on the defensive end, and coming up with multiple steals that led to some easily converted transition baskets. Hot Shot Hui showed signs that he is making progress towards being his lethal best, making some slashing drives to the basket and finishing them with some slick shooting and passing.


The Dragons reside on top of their division, with a 5-0 win/loss record, and have a bye next week (good timing in the wake of Oaks day?). We take on the Dim Sims at 6:50pm on 14th November. Stay tuned for match updates!
