Dragons Hitting form at the Right Time
Looking for retribution for an early season loss to the Modern Drunkards meant that the Deloitte Dragons were not taking their opponents lightly.
In match-up between 2 teams equal on points on the table, it seemed to be a nail-biter of a match on paper, however the Dragons were quick to dismiss any claims of a close match!
Coming out with all guns blazing, the Dragons were relentless in their pursuit of a consolidating victory, and jumped their opponents early, leading 8-2 within minutes of tip-off. Knowing that their opponents could score in bursts, the Dragons were vigilant and tight on the defensive end, picking off passes and ensuring that they had first hands on all rebounds....It seemed the Dragons were on a mission....
The ambush didn't stop there, with Top Cat, Sharpshooter Phoa, Steve Tyler Arrowsmith and captain DK Kang keeping the scoreboard ticking over. By half time, the Dragons had a seemingly unsurmountable 23-4 lead.
Maintaining focus in the second half wasn't hard for the Dragons, who were clearly looking to string a run of impressive wins together leading into the finals. AK 47 Kojevnikov shook off an ankle injury to add to the scoreboard tally, and when he wasn't stealing every ball that came within reach on the defensive end with Frank the Tank, Matty the Rocket Fraser was also draining some lovely baseline jumpshots. "It was like the ring was twice the size of a regulation ring - the shots just kept going in, so we just kept shooting, and growing in confidence as a team" - Matty the Rocket Fraser.
The ring for the Modern Drunkards however, seemed like it had a lid on it. Despite scoring more than double their first half score, the Drunkards only posted a total of 13 points for the game, which can be attributed to the Dragons' excellent rebounding skills and defensive pressure.
The Dragons ended up consolidating first spot, and also boosting their already impressive percentage, running out 43 - 13 winners, and sending a sound message to the rest of the league that they mean business coming into the final few games of the season.
Support from their resident roadie, Sanji Snoop Dogg Mahendran, their super-sub AB Bonnici and their perennial allstar Big Fella Boyd, bouyed the Dragons throughout the match. "We love support from our peers, and look forward to seeing more familiar faces heading into the finals" - Top Cat.
Next week sees the Dragons rest up with a bye, before heading into matches with 2 finals contenders prior to the finals. The Dragons have a training session tentatively booked for Sunday 19th August at MSAC...If you are interested in attending please contact DK Kang or Hadjitello!
