Heartbreak in the 11th hour
It is proposed that all bad things come in 3s....If so, then the Dragons 3 game losing streak will come to an end next week.
In the narrowest of margins, the Dragons went down by 1 point, in a 27-28 tussle for top spot on the ladder.
Pitted against the BallBaggers, who have convincingly beaten every other team in the competition, the Dragons came out a little rusty, giving away the first 6 points. However a 3 pointer from Hadjitello sparked an 11-1 run which saw the Dragons up 11-7, before going into half time with a 15-10 lead.
Having improved considerably in defense over the last 3 games, the Dragons put the stops on their opponents, however it was on offense where the Dragons were their own worst enemies. Strong scoring performances by Top Cat and DK Kang were marred by sloppy overall ball control by the team, leading to costly turnovers and transition baskets for our opponents.
Down a couple, the Dragons regrouped in the final minutes to stop our opponents from scoring, however, despite lockdown defense from Big Fella Boyd, Steve Tyler Arrowsmith and Snoop Mahendran, the Dragons fell one basket short of gaining outright top spot on the competition ladder at the half way point of the season.
"We've definately improved. We've come in leaps and bounds since only last week, and are looking to go the next step in the home stretch of the season. We will have a few training runs and practise protecting the ball better in offense and I reckon it will greatly improve our chances of stirring up the final four" - Hadjitello.
Next week sees the Dragons go into the game as favourites against Greffen Bandits at 8:30! Come along and see the Dragons' assault on the finals!
