Dragons guaranteed top 2 finish

Last night saw the Dragons exploit their undermanned....er....under-woman-ed opponents!

Facing the 3rd placed Ballbaggers, who had beaten the Dragons by a solitary point in their previous encounter this season, the Dragons were keen to impress and shed any doubt heading into the finals! Immediately the Dragons found that they were in an advantageous situation, with their opponents starting with only 1 female player, and 4 guys. Although being outnumbered in the male department, the Dragons knew that they could take advantage of the female situation and wasted no time! The Dragons quickly racked up a 20 - 4 lead with all of their points coming from the inside, where Top Cat and DK Kang were on fire.

Slashing cuts by the girls enabling them to get open, and pinpoint passing from Frank the Tank and Hadjitello saw the scoreboard ticking over at a rapid pace, with the Dragons amassing 32 points by half time. The Dragons however did not have the game won, as their opponents continued to chip away at the scoreboard lead, scoring 19 of their own points, highlighted by multiple long range 3 point bombs.

A half time commitment to tighten up on the defensive end saw the Dragons put the stops on their opponents, whilst converting solid defensive plays into easy offensive baskets. DK Kang was menacing at the top of the key and on the perimeter, hassling the Ballbaggers ball handlers and forcing multiple mistakes which led to Dragons steals!

Top Cat Cartwright and AK Kojevnikov, a last minute call up, due to the unavailability of Brooke Arroswmith, were on fire on the boards and under the basket. Rebound after rebound and basket after basket saw Top Cat amass 26 points for the night, and AK wasn't to shabby either, adding an impressive 14 points - a career high! The Dragons ended up scoring their highest score of the season, a whopping 66 points, and also restricted their opponents to only 14 second half points. The end result 66 - 33.

It was a good hit out for the Dragons and has enabled them a guaranteed top 2 finish. If they win next week, they finish top of the table and head into the finals full of momentum! Our next game is at 8:30 on 5th September against "Believe," a team who pushed another top 4 team to a close encounter. The Dragons will not be taking their opponents lightly and will be looking to finish their inaugural season top of the table and take out the championship!!

"This last 3 weeks is what we have been playing for all season. It comes down to this. This is when we want to put our seasons hard work into practice and apply ourselves for these last games. Every game is crucial, and we aim to win. We have one target, and that is the championship" - Captain DK Kang!

Special thanks must also go out to our loyal supporters throughout the season, including Winnie Gu, who came past to watch the Dragons last night. All the support we can get is very much appreciated!
